I had an unsettling encounter while departing Copenhagen Airport with my children when an immigration officer announced that the system showed I had illegally overstayed my 90 days in the Schengen Area as a U.S. citizen.
We only waited a few minutes and when it was our turn, I handed all three passports to the immigration officer, a very striking blonde woman. She quickly processed the kids, but then she seemed to encounter a problem with my passport. She clicked, and clicked, and clicked for several minutes, then looked up and said to me:
Yes! (and I avoided making any jokes about a U.S. takeover because this woman seemed very serious).
