I suspect that Silversea is looking to grow the fly in / fly out market and this hotel is critical to that. Flying to Antarctica will always be a bit iffy as weather can disrupt plans at a moment’s notice. Now Silversea will have better control over its passengers in the event of those disruptions.

This meant we only got 2 days in Antarctica (Thursday and Friday) and we had to share our trip with a load of people who were finished their holiday and were stuck onboard. It was an extremely expensive, extremely short and an annoyingly frustrating experience; and it was poorly handled by Quark. In hindsight I really wish we had just sailed there and back again.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on One Mile at a Time.
