Kansas City International Airport (MCI) had an ugly New Year’s Eve, but the situation turned far worse after a passenger became agitated, unleashing a verbal tirade against Southwest Airlines staff that included foul language, threats of violence, and ultimately ended in his arrest.

With the airport already on edge, a separate incident at a Southwest Airlines counter went viral for a very different reason. A passenger erupted at employees in a profane tirade, repeatedly threatening staff and escalating the situation in front of other travelers. The videos (there are several…) are hard to watch, because they are not just yelling. It is intimidation directed at frontline workers who have exactly zero power to reverse whatever inconvenience set him off in the first place…and he looks like a serious threat, not because he was black, but because he was so unhinged.
