Another day, another new angle to this horrific story. The flydubai first officer accused of attacking his captain reportedly wanted to crash the aircraft into Ben Gurion Airport, and had begun planning before he even joined the airline. The more we learn, the harder it is to understand how he reached that cockpit…and the questions extend beyond flydubai to Oman, the UAE, and the Israeli government.
Their bravery prevented a catastrophe. But the latest reporting suggests the intended victims included people who were not even aboard the aircraft.
A source briefed on the investigation also said he contemplated an attack on an earlier flight to Israel but did not proceed. Why he stopped remains an open question, though it appears he befriended one of the crew members onboard that flight and decided at the last minute to delay his mission.
