Cathay has 35 Boeing 777-9s on order, but the airline is expected to install first class in only about 20. The other aircraft are planned with business, premium economy and economy cabins. The jet was originally due to enter service in 2020; its delivery is now projected for 2027 at the earliest, and Cathay is not expected to be its launch customer.
A 2019 patent application outlines a single-aisle cabin with four first-class seats, wider suites and a pair of suites that could be joined. One concept adds a ladder-accessed bunk for family travel, while another arrangement could create a private bathroom by repositioning partitions. The airline filed for the Halo Suites trademark in 2023, but has not said whether the patented layouts will reach its aircraft.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on InsideFlyer.
