The United States is ending routine passport stamps at its borders, becoming the latest nation to replace a (fleetingly) familiar part of international travel with an electronic record.
CBP says eliminating the stamps reduces processing time and operating costs. It places the change alongside its broader efforts to automate forms, expand mobile technology and use biometric facial matching.
But passport stamps are not disappearing altogether.
