As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, the country’s biggest contributions to global travel would never fit on a postcard: a jumbo jet that shrank the planet, a hotel lobby that turned arrival into theater, and a California-born calm that rewrote luxury.
“The 747 … marked the moment when the dream of flight became a reality for all of humanity,” said Michael Lombardi, a retired corporate historian for Boeing.
The jet also democratized the premium cabin as luxury shifted from whether travelers could cross an ocean to how it felt while they did. The experience became the luxury.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Luxury Travel Advisor.
