The more we learn about the flydubai flight that nearly ended in disaster, the more remarkable its survival becomes. A wounded Indian captain managed to open the cockpit door, passengers stepped in, and other pilots onboard brought the aircraft safely to the ground.
On September 30, 2026, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 flying from Dubai (DXB) to Tel Aviv (TLV) diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, after a violent cockpit attack. Israeli officials say the Omani first officer stabbed Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian national, and attempted to crash the aircraft.
What initially emerged as reports of a fight between pilots has become a much more disturbing account. We now also have the captain describing his own struggle to get the cockpit door open.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Live and Let's Fly.
