easyJet is finally adding inflight Wi-Fi, and it is going straight to Starlink. That is good news for passengers and raises another question about Ryanair’s resistance to onboard internet. But there is a catch: do not assume easyJet’s Starlink service will be free, which itself might be the strongest way to cajole Ryanair into following.
This will be the airline’s first inflight internet service. Instead of introducing an older system that struggles when everyone connects, easyJet is moving directly to a product that has impressed me every time I have used it. The airline also sees opportunities beyond entertainment, including access to journey information and potentially ordering food and drinks from your seat.
Of course we would all prefer free access, but even reasonably priced, reliable internet would make easyJet more attractive to me, no matter how short or long the flight. With a rather uncomfortable seats and few other in-flight amenities, this would make the flight fly by.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Live and Let's Fly.
