Gyms and saunas may be in short supply in Nuuk, but I found a sauna at a Thai massage parlor and got my 30-minute sweat in…a rather expensive, but refreshing break in the afternoon.
In Nuuk, that is difficult. There is one lodging in Nuuk that has it: Inuk Hostels (not a hostel in the traditional sense…more like cabins). But rather than being a hotel amenity, it costs about 120 USD for an hour for a private session in a barrel sauna and cold plunge, where you can take up to eight people with you.
That was a bit high, but I found a couple of the Thai massage parlors in town had infrared saunas. I chose a place called Smile Thai (located on Jens Kreuzmannip Aqq. 2). If I had more time I would have done a sauna/massage combo (prices were fair), but after visiting the National Museum and Art Museum, I found there was only 45 minutes left before closing time, so I just paid 250 crowns (about 39 USD) to use the sauna.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Live and Let's Fly.
