Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian wants his carrier mentioned alongside the world’s best airlines, including Singapore Airlines and the leading carriers of Asia and the Middle East. What makes that especially interesting is that United CEO Scott Kirby said something remarkably similar to me in Denver just hours apart. Why are Delta and United suddenly comparing themselves to Singapore Airlines and do they share a similar strategy for creating a world class carrier?
Delta has arguably done a better job than any U.S. carrier of building a cohesive premium brand. Its Delta One Lounges are excellent. Free Wi-Fi is now widespread. Its technology is has vastly improved and is getting stronger. Employees are often very good. Operationally, Delta still performs well, even if the gap with competitors is not what it once was.
But is Delta really in the same category as Singapore Airlines?
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Live and Let's Fly.
