Delta Air Lines is adding a trio of new flights to Europe in 2027, but no new European destinations, taking a very different approach from United Airlines. Is Delta’s restraint a smarter bet, or will United’s faster growth pay off?
That is a delivery timing constraint, not evidence that a newly delayed aircraft forced Delta to abandon a more ambitious Europe announcement. New widebody aircraft also have to support fleet renewal and growth elsewhere in the network.
Still, limited aircraft do not entirely dictate where Delta flies. It could move a plane from an existing route to a new destination if it believed the return would be better. Instead, Delta is adding service to established destinations and lengthening the season on routes it already operates, which certainly reflects the trend I am seeing when it comes to European travel. I see a disciplined approach here, even if it does not produce the most exciting headlines.
