British Airways is finally bringing Club Suite to its Airbus A380, with a redesigned cabin that gives business class the entire upper deck. I welcome the upgrade, but there is a downside for budget travelers: the airline is eliminating what I consider its most appealing economy seating.

This is an extensive project, involving more than 35,000 individual parts per aircraft and changes to the galleys and stairways as well as the passenger cabins. But the most interesting change is how British Airways is dividing the space.

That is a welcome replacement for the old 8-across Club World seats, which have become increasingly uncompetitive, even within British Airways, which now offers a very nice Club World Suite on most of its 777, 787, and A350 aircraft.
