A new software problem has delayed certification of the Boeing 737 MAX 10, while United Airlines and Southwest Airlines have told Boeing they do not want new jets equipped with the affected software. For Boeing, it is another setback just as the long-awaited aircraft appeared close to approval.
“We will be delaying the 10 until we’re satisfied that we don’t have an issue here,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford told reporters Monday. He did not give a new date for certification.
Boeing says it informed operators of the problem and is developing a software update. The FAA will convene a review board to determine whether the issue poses a safety risk.
