Air Canada is joining the growing airline trend of unbundling premium cabins, introducing new Premium Economy Basic and Business Class Basic fares that preserve the larger seat and onboard service while stripping away flexibility and some ground benefits. I do not love the direction, but Air Canada’s version is at least less punitive than some competing “business light” products.
The new fares, available beginning today (July 28, 2026), will be priced below Air Canada’s existing premium options while retaining the premium cabin seat, onboard meal, priority boarding, and priority baggage handling.
But as the “Basic” name suggests, several traditional premium benefits have been removed or reduced.
