Boeing Strike Averted, Engineers Earn A 10-32% Raise

Boeing’s engineers agreed to a four-year deal with a 10% raise up front. It might have been the least expensive way to keep the 777X certification possible.

Engineers Ink Deal

Three weeks ago, I wrote that Boeing’s engineers could strike and freeze 777X progress. Good news: that will not happen. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, or SPEEA, ratified a new four-year contract, with results announced October 1. The professional unit approved it with 67.62% in favor, which Migflug reports was 7,895 votes to 3,780. The technical unit approved the deal by a far thinner margin, 53.48%, or 2,061 to 1,793, meaning almost 47% of technical workers still voted no.

The package is led by a 10% raise effective October 2, another 4% in March 2027, followed by annual wage pools in 2028, 2029, and 2030, each worth 6% with a guaranteed minimum raise of 4%, according to AeroCorner’s summary of the second offer. SPEEA projected the average compound gain at 36.3% over four years, with a guaranteed floor of 28.7%. The estimated average is about 32%. This is well above the initial 3% offered.

The new package rewrites work-from-home language (something almost every company needs to do), adds overtime limits for the professional unit. It also adds a higher incentive plan in addition to the wage increases, a larger 401(k) contribution for younger Boeing workers, and caps on mandatory overtime.
