U.S. Airlines Cut Flights As Soaring Fuel Prices Push Fares Higher

Surging fuel prices are forcing American Airlines, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines to reconsider their schedules, potentially leaving passengers with fewer flights and higher fares.

Demand remains strong, which is good news for the airlines. For passengers, however, the combination of fewer available seats and higher operating expenses will almost certainly place upward pressure on fares.

American has indicated that it will make capacity adjustments, although it has not yet outlined every route or frequency that could be affected.

A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Live and Let's Fly.
