The hidden complexity of hotel design

I began by asking what a typical day looks like for him. The honest answer, he said, is that there isn’t one. His role sits at the crossroads of marketing, technical support and project delivery, working with a small team – three key account managers for architects and designers, a UK hotel sales manager, and a showroom host – who between them cover everything from first introductions to final installation.

What struck me most was his insistence that the team’s real focus is not the project itself, but the person behind it. “We focus on them as individuals,” he told me. “We don’t focus on their projects, we focus on working with [the practice], whatever project they have, whatever solution they need.” That distinction matters because architects and designers are notoriously difficult to approach cold – trust, he said, is built over years, through networking, showroom visits, events, and the countless smaller moments in between, such as fielding a request for a data sheet or a set of technical drawings.

A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Hotel Designs.
