A huge shoutout to Cedar, the purser on my recent United Airlines flight from Burbank to San Francisco who really demonstrated how excellent service can make an ordinary flight extraordinary and who left a strong positive impression with every person she interacted with.

She stood at the aircraft door greeting very customer as they boarded with a big smile, offering them a moist towelette. She made her way down the aisle later in the boarding process and saw a shorter woman struggling to get her bag into the overhead bin. Rather than ignore, as it the practice of most flight attendants (and a contractual right), she stopped and asked if she could help, then lifted the bag into the overhead bin.

Look, I realize that she could have injured sherif if this bag was extremely heavy (it wasn’t), but I see that as such a sign of excellent service. I commend a flight attendant who is fit and strong enough to help out someone with their bag, even when it is not part of the job description.

A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Live and Let's Fly.
