A Saudia Airbus A320 was destroyed at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport (RUH) during attacks that killed three people, including an airline captain. It is another grim development in a conflict that keeps spreading…with airline employees and travelers paying a price far removed from the promises of those who started it.

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The destroyed aircraft was an Airbus A320 series jet parked at a gate, with no passengers onboard. Images show a burned-out fuselage and remnants of the wings and tail. But authorities have not clarified whether the aircraft suffered a direct missile hit or was struck by debris from an interception. It also isn’t clear if the captain was onboard the aircraft or just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
