The cardholder contacted Citi through its website chat to downgrade her Strata Elite. When she said she wanted a no-annual-fee product, the representative identified the American Airlines Advantage Mile Up card as the sole eligible choice. She declined because she wanted to keep her ThankYou points. The blogger said other members had reported being offered AT&T Points Plus, which also has no annual fee.
On a subsequent turn, she asked what other cards were available, including ones with annual fees, and the agent then named Points Plus. She accepted it as a temporary way to retain ThankYou points and leave open future product changes or retention offers. The blog says she may later seek a change to Double Cash or another useful card; it does not say whether Citi approved that future switch.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on InsideFlyer.
