Raffles Hotels & Resorts has opened Raffles The Red Sea, a 168-key resort on the northwestern tip of Shura Island, the hub of Red Sea Global’s flagship destination on Saudi Arabia’s western coast.
The property joins Raffles Jeddah and Raffles Makkah Palace in the Kingdom and sits within the Foster + Partners Coral Bloom masterplan, with 121 guest rooms, 14 suites, and 33 private pool villas strung along a lagoon on one side and open water on the other.
The debut lands in a difficult week for Saudi tourism. Between Oct. 6 and 12, Houthi forces in Yemen fired ballistic missiles and drones at three Saudi airports, killing at least 20 people, and Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport is set to stay closed through Oct. 17. Carriers including Air France–KLM, Lufthansa, Delta, and Qatar Airways have suspended service to the capital, though Jeddah, on the Red Sea coast, has continued to receive flights.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Luxury Travel Advisor.
