Iberia told a passenger he could not fly because Expedia had not paid for his ticket. But after he bought replacement flights and pursued the matter, a very different explanation emerged: the flight was simply overbooked. Iberia ultimately made it right (well, partially) but it’s just the latest example of being treated like a second class citizen when booking via an online travel agency rather than directly with the airline.
Illman booked a flight from Milan Malpensa (MXP) to Madrid (MAD) through Expedia. On September 7, 2026, he arrived approximately 2.5 hours before departure, but was refused check-in. He says the agent told him Expedia had not paid Iberia.
He bought replacement flights from Milan Linate (LIN) via Brussels (BRU), arriving in Madrid about six hours later.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Live and Let's Fly.
