For my first dinner in Greenland, I wanted something distinctly Greenlandic. Musk ox seemed like an excellent place to start.

A Hereford Beefstouw is a Danish steakhouse chain that traces its history to 1971. Shirt manufacturer Aage Damgaard and his wife, Bitten, opened the original restaurant near Herning because they felt the city lacked a suitable place to entertain business associates. It became Denmark’s first steakhouse and eventually expanded beyond Denmark, including locations in Greenland and Australia.

The Nuuk restaurant follows the familiar steakhouse formula, but its menu includes local Greenlandic specialties you will not find at every location.
