The weapon used to attack the captain of flydubai flight FZ1073 was a crash axe, according to UAE investigators. That is a chilling new detail: equipment carried to help save lives was used against the man ultimately responsible for protecting everyone aboard.
In an October 3 statement carried by the Emirates News Agency, UAE Attorney-General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi said investigators found that the co-pilot began executing his plan during the flight, attacking the captain inside the cockpit.
The statement says investigators are still examining the full circumstances, motives and any connections related to the attack, including physical and digital evidence. Final results will be announced after that work is completed.
