All Nippon Airways Plans Free Viasat Wi-Fi In All Classes… Eventually

We’ve seen a trend lately whereby more airlines have made free Wi-Fi available for more passengers. Japanese Star Alliance carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA) has made nice progress with this over the past year or so, and has now announced plans to improve that even further. However, we’ll have to be (really, really) patient…

For situations where Wi-Fi isn’t included, the airline currently charges $6.95 for a 30-minute Wi-Fi pass, $16.95 for a three-hour Wi-Fi pass, or $21.95 for a full flight pass. In all cases, there are no data restrictions on usage.

The airline has now announced plans to introduce free Viasat Wi-Fi on much of its long haul fleet, but the process will be very gradual. Specifically, it’ll be 2030 before 80% of the international fleet has this service. The plan is for the airline to start with adding this service to 767-300ERs, then to take delivery of new 777-9s and 787-9s with Viasat, and then to also add the service to many existing jets.

A great solo travel tip spotted this week on One Mile at a Time.
