United Airlines is making Premier status harder to earn in 2027, particularly for its most frequent flyers. There are still too many 1Ks, and thinning those ranks could make the status more valuable. But United is also giving some very valuable customers a reason to stop chasing it…and I am not sure those customers are as “sticky” as CEO Scott Kirby seems to think.
The biggest changes: Premier qualifying flights (PQF) will no longer provide a lower-spending path to status, Premier 1K will require 32,000 Premier qualifying points (PQP), and the annual Starter PQP deposit will require an eligible United credit card.
United is “simplifying” qualification, but in so doing making loyalty more expensive.
A great solo travel tip spotted this week on Live and Let's Fly.
