Alaska Airlines is finally bringing lie-flat seats to its transcontinental flights, and New York City is central to the plan. Called Project Gotham, the initiative reflects a realization that has been a long time coming: if Alaska wants more passengers to pay premium fares, it needs to give them a more compelling reason to do so.
“This is not a test,” Harrison said.
As I outlined yesterday, Alaska plans to introduce 12 lie-flat Aurora Suites on each of at least 25 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft beginning in 2028. Those aircraft will also have 12 Premium Reserve seats, Alaska’s new premium economy product.
