Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are adding a true premium economy cabin to their longhaul fleets and select transcontinental flights. Called Premium Reserve, it promises a wider seat, a leg rest, and better dining for travelers who want more comfort without paying for a lie-flat suite.
That makes this a particularly useful addition to Alaska’s growing international network from Seattle. It also fills a gap on Hawaiian’s A330s, which fly some very long routes where extra-legroom economy is no substitute for a wider seat and a leg rest.
Oh, and does the name “Premium Reserve” make you think of another Atlanta-based airline that is a fierce competitor of Alaska Airlines? Delta has a SkyMiles co-branded “Reserve” credit card with American Express and calls its own premium economy cabin “Premium Select.”
