VN34’s FDR shows the Captain’s side rudder pedals and brakes were applied on several different occasions during the takeoff. The brake applications corresponded with speed reductions which most directly caused the overrun. Engine power and flaps appear to be set correctly. To be clear – it didn’t show the brakes engaged on their own. It showed the Captain’s side brakes (only – not the First Officer’s) were pushed. That will cause ANY plane to overrun a takeoff, if you ride the brakes while trying to accelerate.
