American Airlines is finally testing a more honest approach to rolling delays, using the expected arrival time of an inbound aircraft to provide passengers with a more realistic estimate of when boarding can actually begin.
Your American Airlines flight is scheduled to depart in 30 minutes, but a notification suddenly appears announcing a brief delay. Perhaps the new departure time is only 15 or 20 minutes later than originally scheduled.
That sounds manageable until you look up the inbound aircraft and discover that it has not even left its previous airport. It may be hundreds of miles away, sitting at the gate, with an estimated arrival time later than your newly posted departure time.
