The Greenland National Museum and Archives in Nuuk offers a fascinating introduction to the cultures, migrations, and unlikely events that shaped the world’s largest island. I learned a lot!
Located beside the colonial harbor in several historic buildings, the museum traces Greenland’s human history through archaeological discoveries, traditional clothing, boats, tools, artwork, and exhibits examining the island’s transition from isolated hunting communities to a modern self-governing society.
The museum is not particularly large, but its collection is excellent and provides helpful context for understanding the Greenland I was seeing outside. Before we get to the pictures, here is a brief historical overview…there were many facts I learned.
