American Airlines Will Contribute $1,000 To Trump Accounts For Employees’ Children, With An Obvious Political Benefit

American Airlines is joining dozens of large U.S. companies in contributing to so-called Trump Accounts for employees’ children, offering a one-time $1,000 company contribution on top of the federal government’s $1,000 seed money. On the surface, this is simply a generous employee benefit. Look a little closer, though, because the politics are difficult to ignore.

Trump Accounts, formally known as 530A accounts, were created under federal law as tax-deferred investment accounts for children. U.S. citizen children born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028 with valid Social Security numbers are eligible for a $1,000 federal seed contribution.

American says thousands of employees’ children could qualify for its additional $1,000 contribution.
